More Information

As the name implies, we play traditional and modern jazz styles, performing jazz standards, blues and jazz grooves.

We have a versatile repertoire which we adapt to meet the requirements of your venue.

Venues

We have been performing regularly from 5pm-7pm on the first Sunday of every month at the Waterfront Bar & Restaurant at Raumati Beach.

This is a great venue located right at the beach. Here we have been supported well by the manager Jonny Holden, and an enthusuastic following.

We have played at a range of venues:

Personal

On piano/keyboard is Murray Stewart, who has just graduated with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz. Murray is a longtime musician. He has been a regular in the Dunedin music scene, toured and performing with Theatrical Explosions initially in Dunedin and later in Christchurch. He has toured with Billy TK Senior throughout the South Island. More recently he has completed a Diploma of Teaching and is teaching Itinerant Music at Kapiti College. In Wellington he was a member of The Ascension Band, which won Best Live Music at 2006 Fringe Festival.

On double bass we have Aaron Stewart, also a recent graduate from the New Zealand School of Music, majoring in Jazz Performance. While continuing his music studies at NZSM and tutoring at Jazz School and privately, he is a regular on the Wellington jazz music scene playing in various lineups.

Recently Shaun Elley has joined us on drums. He also performs regularly in the Wellington music scene for "Harbour City Electric", in between studying for the New Zealand School of Music degree in Jazz Performance.

Joe Mack, also drums for us. Graduating this year with Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance, he plays in the Primo Quartet with Aaron, and with other bands around Wellington.

Renee Corbett is another of our drummers. He graduated from Massey in 2006 with Bachelor of Music in Jazz. When not performing, Renee tutors aspiring drummers.

Completing their studies at NZSM are our sax player Mike and our singer Nikita. They are also familiars in the Wellington jazz scene.

At our Kapiti Coast gigs we have been supported by John Joyce on saxophone. John has had extensive experience in the jazz field. He has won awards for radio programming, composed and arranged with jazz bands, and was the external judge for Massey University music degree recitals.
